Since 2018, amid the improving situation on the Korean Peninsula, the ROK-US alliance has shown new developments in its structure and functions: the two countries have maintained close policy coordination throught the process of their dialogues with the DPRK including summits; they have taken measures to suspend largescale joint military exercises in response to the DPRK's halt of nuclear and missiles development activities; within the alliance, the ROK has sought to regain wartime command as soon as possible whereas the US has asked the ROK to increase burdensharing of defense costs; as the two are committed to jointly building the international order on the basis of strenghening the alliance relationship, they have put more stress on alignment and cooperation in terms of foreign strategies. Therefores, as far as the ROk-US alliance is concernes, the "symmetry" of its internal structure will increase along with the enhancement of the comprehensive strength and autonomy of the ROK, and the functional atribute of its political and diplomatic alliance continue to be strengthened.
