The regional situation of Europe in 2020 and the outlook

2020 was the toughest year for Europe as it was faced with the greatest multiplicity of difficulties since the beginning of the new century. Under the combined impact of repeated outbreaks of the COVID 19 pandemic, the intensified, China-US poer game, the slow progress of brexit, etc., the old and new conflicts in the EU's internal and external affairs became increasingly interwined and difficult to resolve. The progress of european integration was disrupted, its economic strength seriously demaged, and the interests of European countries obviously divided. The EU's external relations experienced fareaching changes, while Europe and the US showed signs of growing further aprt, EU-Russia relations wen through continuous twists and turns, and the tensions between the EU and Turkey escalated. In the face of various tests, the EU accelerated its quest for strategic autonomy and strenuously promoted its internal development and external relations amid the difficult integration effots. As a result, new opportunities arose for the EU to step up integration and its foreign policy returned to a realistic and interest-oriented approach. In 2021, Europe will continue to strengthen its internal integration and external coordination, and promote its strategic autonomy. European integration is expected to move forward with constant adjustment and adaptation
